OUR VISION IS "TO BE THE LEADING ADULT SWIM CLUB IN CANADA WHERE THE 'SWIMMER EXPERIENCE' IS PARAMOUNT"

Georgian Bay Squall (GBS) is a swim club that caters to adults 18 and over.  Promoting both a healthy lifestyle and opportunities for positive social interaction, GBS offers programs to suit the needs of all participants.  The club’s main goal is to offer an exceptional swim experience each and every time you come to the pool.Georgian Bay Squall welcomes swimmers of all abilities and encourages teammate led support. Professionally coached training options offer something for everyone, regardless of your level of proficiency and personal goals.

Competitive Swim Training

The competitive stream focuses on preparing swimmers for competition at various levels, including local, provincial, national and international opportunities.  Training will be periodized to match the Swim Ontario competitive calendar, and stroke specific training and race strategies will be central to the annual training plan. The ultimate goal of this stream is to make swimmers faster, and/or to stave off a decline in competitive performance.  Individual goals will be set and reviewed with each swimmer on a regular basis throughout the season.

Triathlon Swim Training

The Triathlon training stream focuses on preparing triathletes for participation in all triathlon distances.  Early season training will focus on technical work and general fitness in all four strokes.  In season focus will shift to freestyle technique and speed.  Where possible, periodized training to peak for “A” races will be programmed. Individual goals will be set and reviewed with each swimmer on a regular basis throughout the season. Participants in this stream will have the option to move into an Open Water training program as weather permits.

Stroke Improvement

The main focus of this class will be to help improve your swimming technique while breaking down the main components of each ‘competitive’ swim stroke.  This includes body position, breathing, kicking, pull and rhythm.  You will receive individual feedback on your stroke, time to practice, and you will engage in a variety of drills.  As part of the class, you will be provided with individual video analysis. This program is great for any swimmer looking to improve his or her swim technique for efficiency and so as to prevent injuries that may occur due to incorrect technique.

Introduction To Masters Swimming

If you can swim two lengths of the pool (any stroke) and feel comfortable in the deep end, you will enjoy learning new skills you may have thought were beyond your abilities. The focus in the Introduction to Masters program will be to help participants become proficient Masters swimmers.  Professionally coached sessions will teach you how to swim safely in a group setting while introducing proper technique in all four of the competitive stokes - Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and even dabbling with Butterfly.  In addition to learning ‘swim etiquette’, you will discover how to receive coaching, interpret a written workout, learn swim vocabulary and read a pace clock.

Open Water Swimming

Georgian Bay Squall encourages all team members to get out and enjoy the convenience of open water swimming in their own back. We facilitate open events of our own, and advocate for participation in all open water competitive and participatory events.

Personal Training

In addition to all of the group streams offered, GBS Head Coach Nancy Black also offers private and personal coaching that will help swimmers bring their technique and performance to the next level. This type of training is great for both new and experienced swimmers and can be used as ‘stand-alone’ training or to enhance existing training plans/swim programming. Training includes custom instruction for stroke improvement with the use of in water instruction (by coach), video analysis and regular written updates. Training plans can be created as a supplement to Personal Training sessions. These Personal Training sessions and schedule will be subject to the Collingwood Centennial Pool lane availability.
